Among the national days, one shows up twice: National Pancake Day. The first of them falls traditonally on Shrove Tuesday, but in 2023 the IHOP shifted observance also coincided with sticky rolls day...which is what I chose to honor. After all, I knew another shot at pancakes was coming again in September. Last Tuesday this was celebrated with a new recipe: a wonderfully puffed Dutch baby pancake, suitably supplemented with maple syrup, and washed down with a very tall glass of whole milk. (I managed to match a meal of pancakes to that special day back in 2014, too.) Speaking of eating, the new pup Scarlett is a girl with a voracious appetite and therefore Sumner's bowl is never quite safe.
