We have rolled into December now, and winter has not even begun and I am so very peeved at how wintry it already feels. A miserable morning of cold rain that would not fully move on hung over the city this past Saturday, but the delicious dinner I put on the table that evening granted a respite into a land of joy: ginger-coriander-crusted tuna steak with a ginger-lime-avocado-wasabi sauce. Fresh hot quinoa and the remainder of the previous evening's well-roasted asparagus spears gifted me a full plate, and then a full belly.
Sweet Sumner is continuing his recovery from the surgical procedure earlier in the week, and slept sweetly much of that weekend morning in my chair by the fireside. Ah, but when I had a late-morning snack of more cinnamon toast on homemade bread, he was interested for just a quick moment:
When five o'clock rolled around, the annual Winston-Salem Christmas parade began. The streets around the house are used for staging and routing the parade participants, as sort of shown in this photo looking down on Fourth Street from the 3rd floor window:
On one of our treks outside (Sumner loved seeing all the foot traffic!), I struck up a long conversation with the Mustang-convertible-driving grandpa of a crowned Tiny Miss pageant winner, who herself was a full-personalitied three-year-old (sorry—I took no pictures then). At some point, I snagged a photo of this delightful lady in a classic t-top, with a proud erect Santa riding high, and the house (and Sumner) in the background:
