By the time we were into a third day that felt much more like November than August, the persistent drear and rain hanging about, I just wanted soup. That's what happened on Wednesday, mid-day, and it was a stupendous pot of the roasted broccoli and cheddar variety. I ought not to have eaten quite so much of it, but any regret you hear in this is a contrivance.
