As a cold front came through last Wednesday, with its mist and showers and grey and drear, the dinner choice had to be soup, didn't it? And so it was, with broccoli florets roasted in the oven, and a hearty broth boosted with Madeira shallots, and freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese. The single bowl was not sufficient and the added sips and slurps were supremely satisfying.
