A quick update on water: By late morning, the cold water was working again, but I couldn't get anything out of the hot water pipes. Still, it was nice to be able to brush my teeth and not to have to go out to the lime-green portajohn. By early afternoon, the fact that the hot water would still not run left me puzzled, and it turns out the plumbing subcontractor failed to mention that two (two!) other valves had been shut off around the water heater.
Dishes have been washed, recycling rinsed for crushing, and I was able to make cookies. It's nice to get one's water back.
