A cold, crystal clear morning is our greeting of a new day, and a new year, along with the echoing sounds of hammers and nailguns that must make the neighbors all around me glad they live in downtown Winston-Salem. Pete and a couple of his guys are here to smartly soldier on, taking advantage of one more day of clear weather to finish framing the grand rear gable. Today they'll felt and shingle as much as they can. What they were doing just now to get started looked so scary and precarious that I had to come back inside.
These are the shots from this morning. Happy New Year!

I saw that the staircase to the attic is gone (the landing looks beautiful!), but I also see extra attic space being built with the gable. Is there going to be another staircase to the attic or are you just scrapping that space as livable all together?
In my initial hopes for the renovation, there would also have been a finishing of the attic to create a grand entertainment/casual space, and the way that back gable pushes out, it would have made for a heckuva place up there. But it was making the project too grand, and too expensive. I hope to come back later and do that, though. For now, the attic will be opened up into the new back gable area, and Pete is going to install pull-down stairs for a short-term access solution. I think the landing, now so nicely opened up without those attic stairs, would make a great library...don't you?
Sounds like you've made some very smart decisions for potential future expansion/finishing. I do like the idea of a library on the upper landing. Add some comfortable seating and you've set up a fabulous casual area for guests to relax or socialize.
