The Bitter Cold...and No Water
This arctic blast that's surprised and stunned so much of the country's mid-section and south these last few days has not been without impact here. Because all the plumbing is in the uninsulated and partially completed addition, it was necessary to shut off the water Thursday night and drain the pipes. Otherwise, there was a risk especially of the old plumbing pipe in the one remaining bathroom within the house of busting. Since the whole back of the house is an opened wall, all that stands between the living areas of the main house and the bitter cold outside is a bit of plaster and the 1-inch lathe board. The picture here shows the back wall of the house, and more specifically the exposed wall to the master bathroom. (That bit of OSB plyboard is what's sealing the door from the bedroom to the master bathroom.)
On another note, Pete had his fellows make a nice little arch over the step-up into the Roman tub alcove in the master bathroom. I tried to capture that in the afternoon sunlight coming in on Saturday afternoon.

It has been cold, indeed! Sorry your heat's going out the back of your house.
This raises a question, though: What will you do about insulation for the new area? Our insulators blew foam on the underside of the roof. It was nifty to see it go on and it apparently will be very effective. (Preliminary evidence from standing inside with no heat is encouraging; it was not chilly in there when the outside temp was in the single digits yesterday.)
