The old wild hair got ahold of me Wednesday a week ago, in part because I had a skillet of oil from the previous evening's Navajo frybread, and I needed something quick for dessert. That led me to my third trial of funnel cakes, appropos at that moment while the North Carolina State Fair was going on over in Raleigh. Heavy shakes of powdered sugar and dusted with cinnamon, these devilish delights put all four of us over the top that evening.
