When Amy Williamson began to anticipate her birthday coming up, she decided that one clever and cool way to celebrate it was to call for a small gathering of interested parties for a DVD-watching party of the entire first season of the AMC series "The Walking Dead."
Based on a comic book series (with which I was blissfully unfamiliar) of the same name, this turns out to be quite a show for a network like AMC and it was incredibly well-done. Watching the entire season in a single night proved quite do-able, since it aired in a succinct six episodes. And I'm glad to know that AMC has renewed it for a second season of 13 episodes.
Amy also asked if there might be some dinner containing lots of cheese, plus chocolate eclair cake for dessert. She is a woman of simple and refined tastes that fit in just right with the way things are done around the Roediger House.
Meal No. 238: Pipetizer Casserole
It seems I might need to rename this casserole "The Birthday Casserole," as it has now made a notable appearance as the main entree at two birthday bashes in the Roediger House these last few weeks. But it's delicious and very cheesy and seems to please (and feed!) a crowd, so that's how I tried to rise to Amy's occasion.
As I served it up late Sunday afternoon, the spring-like sunlight was angling prominently through the kitchen sink window and laying itself across the countertop by the cooktop, leading to this slightly eerie shot of my plate of food.
"Pipetizer Casserole" is an adaptation of "Tailgate Casserole," from The Big Book of Casseroles, by Maryana Vollstedt. San Francisco: Chronicle Books (2000), p. 120.
