Downtown Development: Inmar

Inmar, a consulting and software services company that began as a coupon processing company in Winston-Salem in 1980, is going to greatly increase its workforce in Winston-Salem. And as part of that, they're going to take over a large portion of the old R.J. Reynolds No. 90 buildings on the east side of downtown. This puts them in the late afternoon shadow of the newly-opened Wake Forest Biotech Place, and all this is good news for the Innovation Quarter (formerly known as the Piedmont Triad Research Park).

Everything that signals good growth and development news to downtown matters to me, and from time to time I'll find it necessary to use this blog for my own coverage and record of it.

I've been looking at these buildings from the west side so much that I wasn't realizing they were actually the ones that make such a striking presence as one comes into downtown from the US 52 side on the east. So a few mornings ago I took advantage of some nice early-day sun and snapped a few shots.

Editor's Note: Thanks to a comment posted by Shannon Lally Hanington, Senior Manager of Inmar Communications, I've corrected this blog entry to reflect a better understanding of the history of Inmar. They are relocating their headquarters to the buildings shown above, but they've always been in Winston-Salem. I definitely celebrate their choice of downtown and their role in helping create this tremendous renovation and repurposing project.

Thanks very much for mentioning Inmar in your blog. We are very excited about our move to the new headquarters as well! We do want people to know, however, that Inmar has been located proudly in Winston-Salem since our beginning in 1980. We were then known as Carolina Coupon Clearing. Many years and much growth later, we currently occupy three buildings in Winston-Salem - two on Pilgrim Court and one on Healy Drive. Our website is www.inmar.com.
