Last Friday's approximation of a reunion of the most regular RoHo regulars, with a focus on distanced socializing, was more than a chili gathering. It was also the impetus for me to try out a cool summer treat for dessert, that in the end was only somewhat decent: Japanese strawberry shortcake. I've no doubt that my stumbles with this may have been from a combination of impatience and limited proficiency with the accompanying techniques to get it right...but it was a cooling salve on our chili-spiced tongues and a worthy tribute to summertime, while it yet lasts.
