The Dining Room: Permanently Restored, At Last!

One of the beautiful rooms of this beautiful house is the dining room. Unfortunately, for the last three years, it's been anything but useful for dining. That's because it first became a place for storage in 2012, when my mother's estate began to be divided. With the help of a good friend who was visiting last year, we managed to get the dining room set up again for use, just in time for the annual Memorial Day "Thanksgiving on the Half-Year" gathering. Then, less than a month later, it was turned asunder so that plaster restoration work could be done, which is when this room's gorgeous possibilities were really ignited. I was quick to set it up again...but then the floor refinishing work by Clemmons Flooring, LLC, began. And with plaster work continuing and moving from one room, to another room, and then to another...rooms were shifted around, furniture and carpets had to be stored...and the dining room even served for a while first as the master bedroom and then as the house TV room. It has remained a sordid disaster for months now, looking for all the world like it was going to be an unsurmountable challenge to overcome.

This past weekend, the insurmountable deed got mounted and tamed. The City's bulky item collection for my area was a couple of weeks ago, and that helped get me started. Then, with the unrelenting persistence and generous assistance of good friend Jeremy from Virginia, we made it happen. Unfortunately, because I was thinking in temporary terms when moving things back into the dining room several months ago, I put down the rug without any pad underneath. Here's what that led to:

Once we took care of that additional wrinkle in the process, we were able to get everything moved back in and situated. From now on, the house again features a dining room, ready for holiday meals and large dinners. I love how it looks.

Plaster, painting, floor refinishing, woodwork restoration, and even a new piece of furniture on the long wall: the dining room is done, and I hope it's for good!
