Northern Tier States Tour: Day 5

Wednesday morning dawned sunny and beautiful again, and it was time to depart the Hotel Alex Johnson and set off on a massive drive, with the endpoint a roadside Comfort Inn in Glendive, Montana. First, a stop in Sturgis, because it's there:


Also passed through Deadwood, SD, but only drove around downtown and looked around without making a stop. From there, it was a gorgeous drive and not far to the Wyoming border:


…and on to Devil's Tower National Monument, the nation's first designated national monument, at that. This creation is just insanely marvelous, a weirdly beautiful formation that compels the mind to contemplate awesome forces played out in super-slow-motion over millions and millions of years. I could not make wise choices about which pictures to put up here, so this is what you get:
